Norka Luque: Giving Young People Hope through Music

Ms. Martinez otherwise known by her stage name Norka is a Latin musician living in Miami. Her home city is Caracas, Venezuela. Norka’s life story has been about the commitment to pursue her dreams and encourage others to do the same. She is a role model to all the upcoming musicians since her songs offer them hope and inspiration.

Realizing that life in the music industry is a constant struggle for most upcoming musicians, she wanted to inspire them through her music. Her parents discovered her amazing talent at an early age; she was eight years old at the time. As a result, they encouraged her to take dance, instrument and singing lessons.

Even though she was quite active in the art lessons, she also showed interest in her academic studies. When she graduated from high school, she went abroad to further her academic studies. Her thirst for formal education landed her in a business school in France. By the end of the four-year course, she graduated with a degree in business administration.

According to Luque’s profile, she had a short banking career in Monaco before moving to the United States to pursue music as a profession. In the United States, she began her career journey performing in nightclubs in the Miami area. She did this for four years before finding her big break.

Norka Luque will never forget the year 2008. It was in 2008 that she met the Latino music composer and producer Emilio Estefan. Mr. Estefan changed her life; he signed her to his record label Crescent Moon Records. When she was asked about how she felt about her recent signing to the Crescent Moon Records, she responded, “This is an opportunity that many talented artists dream of having….I feel so blessed that Mr. Estefan liked my musical project, working with him is a miracle….”

Since she started working with Mr. Estefan, she has produced several hit singles including “Como Lo Haces Tu,” “Milagro,” “Tomorrowland” and “Ese Es Mi Carino.” Throughout her career, she has received several music awards that acknowledge her hard work as a musician. In 2011, Martinez got a nomination for the Best Female Pop Artist of Year at the Premios Lo Nuestro Latin Music Awards. In 2012, she was featured on the cover of Latino Show Magazine.

Ms. Martinez is here to remind all aspiring musicians that everything is possible through hope and hard work. Listen to her hit single “Milagro,” and you will get inspired to pursue your dreams.

Mrs. Betsy DeVos, a reformer who has led several campaigns, political action committees, and party organizations, had an interesting chat with Philanthropy. She gave her honest opinion on how the School Choice program and Education Reform Movement was fairing across different cities in the U.S. She stated that students could now acquire quality education through the educational-choice programs across 17 states in addition to the District of Columbia. Betsy said that the relevance of the educational choice program had increased tremendously in Florida, Indiana, and Louisiana. The Conservative Campaign Against George Soros

George Soros is a Hungarian-American businessman, activist, and humanitarian. He is also a billionaire that donates money to many liberal causes in the United States and abroad. It is no wonder then that he has become a lightning rod for criticism for conservative leaning talk show host, Glenn Beck. An article called “Puppetry” written in the New Yorker in 2010 outlined the campaign against Soros and what it entails.

Glenn Beck is one of the highest viewed hosts on Fox News. He has devoted much of his time to speaking out against George Soros and the organizations he donates too. Beck devoted three of his hour long talk shows to attacking George Soros. The episodes had promotional ads that attempted to draw at viewers emotions by using imagery from the Holocaust. Black screens with superimposed, supposedly controversial, quotes from Soros on his experience during the reign of the Third Reich were followed by images of Jewish ghettos during the Holocaust and praying Jews. This was then followed by pictures of an anonymous middle aged man peering over his shoulder, while a ever growing sound of a heartbeat played in the background.

This was all apart of the campaign against Soros that Fox News and Glenn Beck have waged for year. The quotes used in the ad were from a Connie Bruck article in the New Yorker, and taken out of context to make Soros look like an anti-Semite on project-syndicate.org. This, however, was very far from the truth as Soros is an ardent supporter of anti-Totalitarian and humanitarian causes.

Soros was born in Budapest in 1930 and grew up under Nazi rule. He hid in plain sight as his father hid his Jewish identity with forged documents and identities. After surviving the atrocities of the Holocaust, Soros moved to England and studied at the London School of Economics. He had a talent for finance and soon got a job on Wall Street and became wealthy. His parents moved to the United States after the Soviets crushed the Hungarian Revolution.

Most of Soros’s donations were made to pro-democracy groups in the former Soviet bloc and he had a large hand in ending European communism. Viewers were not told about this on the Glenn Beck program, and they were instead told that Soros contributed mostly to campaigns of Democratic presidential candidates on Politico. Beck tried to paint Soros as evil and that he wanted to destroy America. These claims were denounced by the Anti-Defamation League and conservative groups and were outright lies.

Beck furthered his campaign but speaking of the revolutions in the Czech Republic, Georgia, and the Ukraine that Soros funded. He did not, however, tell his audience that the revolutions that Soros funded went to fight post-Communist dictatorships in these countries and were mostly peaceful. Beck gets away with these libelous accusations due to the fact he labels himself as an entertainer. He uses his position to continue his campaign against Soros, even though the facts point to Soros being a successful and peace loving humanitarian and philanthropist.
